With the official start to the trout fishing season now only a month away and with the start of the salmon season past its first month my thoughts go to which rod, which fly and where to go. On my list is The Sutton Veny Estate and beats on the Upper Wylye a trip to Dartmoor and some sea trout fishing in Wales.
With the most recent issue of Trout & Salmon well-thumbed I think I will try to fish a few new rivers. Articles in the March issue cover Running Salmon, A Trout-Fisher’s Guide To The Taff, Where Tummel Meets Tay, Which Retrieve For Trout, Wild Trout And May Blossom, Trout On The Edge Of Dartmoor and The Truth About Lies. If you don’t have a subscription to Trout & Salmon you can always access it as an iPad edition which is out now via the App Store.
It has been a long winter and a while since I cast a featherweight dry-fly, in fact I’m aware you can fly fish on the River Wandle from Carshalton to Wandsworth, so a bit of urban fishing is on the cards.

I have a young son who is keen on making flies and there is a group of fly fishers that meet at the Three Kings on Clerkenwell Green that would also put any material to good use keeping your fathers legacy alive.
