On a cold and wet Tuesday in April where the sky turned to a threatening prussian blue and grey, like a wash from a Turner painting I took refuge and stayed at home to plan ahead.
On a recent visit to a car boot at Hounslow Heath I found an old Penn 200 Surfmaster reel, which as in good condition and ran freely. It was found on a table were everything was priced under £5, this reel changed hands for £3.
Other items found were a float winder in good condition and looked better for a coat of Fiddes blended beeswax – Mellow Wax.
Another great find was a large box with several sections, described as a fly cabinet or possible a multi-compartment float box, either way it was a good purchase and will be put to good use. I’m always amused at what turns up at these sales, my other purchase for 50p was a fine silver and ceramic cheese knife, with hallmarks and in good condition, what it did need was a good polish. Not everything I may buy is to do with fishing…but then again this will be useful for my Ploughman’s lunch after a mornings trout fishing.
