On this warm May Bank Holiday weekend I can report a dramatic turn of events, from the 5th year this event ran when the winning squid was the size of a thumb nail. This year 25 squid and 6 cuttlefish were caught in an epic 6 hours challenge that took place on the East Arm of the Brighton Marina.

Held under a clear blue sky and with a light breeze bays 1-53 were assigned to this ever popular event. Signing in was in front of the cafe at the begging of the East Arm from 11.30am with a lucky dip style draw for an envelope with your peg number in it.

On the incoming high tide at just after 1pm jigs were cast into a coloured sea and fishermen awaited the Kraken from the deep to emerge.

This year the winner was Will Johns with 3 squid measuring 99cm, so congratulations to Will and to all those that supported this event that was in aid of the RNLI.
