The warm summer evenings have arrived and as the sun drops behind the trees so do we drop a small stick float into the margins with a single maggot suspended about 3ft below.
A wake forms in the water as a small bream breaks the surface and then drops away into the indigo water with flecks of gold shimmering on the surface as the last rays of the sun break through the trees on the opposite bank.
As the minutes pass a slight twitch to the end of the Diawa rod and then the float dips beneath the surface, young Tales reaches for the rod and lifts but for a moment the feeling that the quarry has snatched at the bait is then met with a solid tug, the rod tip bends and the line pulls tight to the face of the Abu 1044 reel. A silver flank breaks the glass like water and the net is lowered close to the bank to net a fine Skimmer Bream.
Repeatedly the same twitch to the float but this time close in and another fish makes its way to the net. A last cast from Little Tales results in a small Roach, the rod is laid down, the sun long gone and our thought are on heading home from Lyne Lake near Cherstey.
