As the early morning light gave way to powder pink clouds and vapour trails the gates of Kempton opened for the first market of 2013.
Dealers from far and wide opened the doors of the white vans and unloaded anything and everything you could ever imagine, linens, glass, rugs, furniture, lighting, paintings, kitchenalia, collectables, garden planters, mirrors this list is endless, there was even a stuffed dog to go with the stuffed fox, pike, bear, bird and stags heads.
Having decided to search for vintage tackle I found rods by Hardy, Farlows and Martin, rare bait tins, sea-trout flies, crayfish nets, landing nets, creels and much more. Mrs Tales will be pleased to note that no cash changed hands so nothing came home.
At one stage of the morning I had to think about where I was as dealers spoke in French, Dutch, Flemish and German.
Other things that caught my eye were old pub signs, Market Porter badges, a painting of a ‘Maiden on a Voyage’, a fine terracotta bust of a fisherman and a beautiful glass spirit barrel, if only I had room….see http://sunburyantiques.com/ for more information and dates of markets.
